Dance Studio in Austin, TX

All three of my daughters ages 3-8 have attended ballet and tap classes at SMSD. We’ve had the privilege of having many of the teachers, and every one of them have wonderful. My daughter’s have also done summer camp weeks here and the father-daughter dance. All very positive and so fun, and a great value for the price. My husband and I also took adult two-stepping lessons, which we enjoyed even though we are not very good dancers! The owner and her family are genuinely kind and generous. And the recital at the end of the year is a must. The costumes are very high quality and the production is enjoyable for the whole family. Thank you, SMSD!!

My daughter has enjoyed taking almost every kind of dance class and summer camp at SMSD over the past 4 years. She has grown so much as a dancer and made so many friends in the community. No matter your age, if you are looking for a place for you, or your daughter or son to grow as a dancer and in confidence and physical ability, its a wonderful, warm family to become a part of. If you are looking for the most competitive, cut throat - this is not your place. The dancing instruction is structured, the choreography is modern and innovative, and it produces results, but they emphasize fun and growth just as much. My daughter has really blossomed in confidence and its a great physical outlet for her. A wonderful Austin staple in a great community. It really does feel like a family.

Our daughter has been dancing at Shirley McPhail for the past six years, and it has been such a wonderful experience. She has had the opportunity to learn from several talented teachers, and her confidence and skills have grown so much.

This year she celebrated her birthday at the studio, and it was an absolute hit! Her friends and their parents had so many wonderful things to say about the studio, the party, and the amazing staff who made everything so much fun. She has also attended several summer camps at Shirley McPhail and has loved every one of them.

We are grateful to be part of the Shirley McPhail family look forward to many more years of dancing, learning, and making wonderful memories!

Our daughter has been at SMSD since she was two (she's 10 now), and we've had a wonderful experience. It's a warm, close-knit community, and the teachers and coaches are fantastic. Many of the staff have been there for years/generations, many started out as dancers themselves. The annual recital is always a highlight, and there are so many fun activities throughout the year that make it feel like more than just a dance studio. It's definitely a place that fosters confidence, long-lasting friendships, and of course lots of dance growth.

The sweetest dance school in Austin! We are so grateful to have found SMSD and look forward to many more years together!

I’ve been taking adult tap dance lessons here for years and absolutely love it! Tap is a fantastic way to stay active, improve balance and coordination, and keep my mind engaged as I learn new steps and routines. I believe it’s one of the best things I can do for my overall well-being — and it’s also just plain fun!

The instructors are wonderful, and the atmosphere is welcoming and encouraging. It’s a great community of people who love to dance, learn, and have a good time. I’m so glad I found this studio!

I love dancing at SMSD! I've been taking tap off and on for 8 years, and it's been such a wonderful experience. In addition to keeping my brain sharp, I've made some wonderful friends. Edwina is simply the best

We are going into our 4th year at SMSD and we absolutely love it! Studio leadership works so hard to make the whole experience wonderful for dancers and their families. The recitals are phenomenal! Everyone we’ve met here, from the owner, director, manager, instructors, and sales associates at The Dancers Den have been nothing but welcoming, helpful, and kind. I’m extremely thankful that we found this studio years ago. To all of the hardworking staff at SMSD: thank you for everything you do for us! We appreciate and love you!

Wonderful dance studio with kind, experienced staff that teaches all ages/dance levels starting at age 2. My daughter is in Twinkle Tots for kids aged 2-3. She was nervous about her first organized activity without mom or dad there, but the teachers gave her a warm welcome and made her feel comfortable as soon as she walked in the studio door. In no time she was having a blast! So grateful for this studio!

My daughter has been taking classes here for going on 4 years and has loved all her instructors. The dance school is a very positive environment that pushes the girls to be the best they can be while keeping the focus on fun.

I have danced at SMSD for more than 13 years. Every year has been a wonderful experience. The studio is great to dance in but more important are all of the incredible teachers. They provide a fun experience as well as dance lessons. Dance is a great way to exercise while having fun. The family atmosphere is encouraging and caring. I highlight recommend it!!

I have been taking adult tap dance classes at SMSD for almost 5 years, and I have enjoyed every minute. The instructors are dedicated and passionate about their craft and the students are very motivated and each class member has become a friend. Tap is a great way to exercise and to keep the brain in good shape, especially as we age. I am so glad I found SMSD when I moved to Texas and look forward to many more years of happy tapping.

We've enjoyed our time thus far at SMSD and look forward to many years ahead for dance! We love the teachers and the experience they bring to their students! The recital in may is certainly the highlight of the year.

Our daughter has loved SMSD. The teachers are warm and caring, and she's made friends in all her classes. We're excited to continue year 4 with them!

I've heard it said that if your place for exercise is more than 10-12 minutes away, you might not keep going. SMSDance is about 20 minutes away from my home and I've been tap dancing there for 16 years and counting! There are places closer but none that I enjoyed as much as I do SMSD. That should say it all! Edwina is a delightful teacher - always warm, welcoming, and encourages a sense of fun, all while being very professional. Her attitude encourages a sense of community so I look forward seeing classmates who are also friends. I highly recommend adult tap dance at SMSD.
