Digital Dancing: The Benefits of Virtual Class

Digital Dancing: The Benefits of Virtual Class

Digital Dancing: The Benefits of Virtual Class

September 22, 2020November 12, 2020by Shirley McPhail School of Dancein Uncategorized

What a time we are living in! While we may have never considered the possibility of teaching dance class virtually, we are so glad we have been able to get our virtual classes up and running at SMSD. We have since opened our studio to small in-person classes with many protocols in place. However, we understand that virtual classes are still the best option for some of our dance families. This alternative to in-studio class ensures we do not have to go MONTHS without seeing our dancers, and while it is a different experience than in-studio class it still has its benefits.

Personal connection

Dance is about more than just the steps. It is so important for dancers of all ages to maintain relationships with people they are not able to see in person, including their dance teachers and friends! We truly are a dance family at SMSD, and all the friendships created at the studio are special. Even though currently we must be socially distant, we do not necessarily have to be emotionally distant. Through zoom virtual classes our dancers can learn with their friends and connect with their dance community.

Routine

Both children and adults thrive off a sense of routine and structure. By having weekly dance classes on you or your child’s schedule, you can foster a sense of normalcy and provide a bit of consistency. It might also be possible that once restrictions are lifted, dancers will feel more confident returning to the studio if they have been taking class virtually at home as opposed to sitting out of the activity for months.

Physical fitness

It is important for everyone to exercise and be physically active. Movement is good for the mind and emotional well-being too. Dance class is the perfect at-home activity to get you or your child’s heart rate up! Student should maintain as much activity as they can to ensure they do not lose their skills and technique.

Parents can get a break

It is challenging for parents who must balance their children’s school education with their work responsibilities. Having a child enrolled in dance class can give parents a breather knowing they will be occupied for the next hour or so, and they can get what they need done for work or otherwise.

We are passionate about sharing our love of dance, and we will continue to do so even though it may look a little different right now! If you have any questions or need help setting up your tech or dance space for virtual classes, please get in touch with us so that we can continue to support you and your children.
