Studio Policies

Studio policies must be signed virtually via your parent portal account (existing students) or online web registration (new students) in order to access enrollment.

Rules and Regulations

Students are placed in classes according to what they have accomplished during the years they have studied dance. Dedication and natural ability are also considered.

No chewing gum, food, or drink are allowed in the studio or lobby; water only. 

All dancers must be in proper dress code for class.

We reserve the right to dismiss any student who upsets the harmony of the school.

Punctuality- it is disruptive to the student and teacher to enter class late. Please do not drop off your child early or leave them at the studio after their class time. We are not equipped to watch children that are not in a scheduled class. 

Absences- teachers will not slow down a class to accommodate a previously absent student. Absences may be made up within the same month based on availability. Make up classes must be arranged with the studio office. 

Participation in recitals will be based on attendance, attitude, ability and cooperation of the student. Decisions regarding participation in these events will be made by the staff.

Violations of SMSD policies may be the basis for termination.

Tuition & Fees

FALL 2024-SPRING 2025: Registration fee ($55/student, $30/additional siblings) charged upon enrollment. Last month's tuition (May 2024) will be charged on 8/10/24. Last month’s tuition (May 2024) will be charged upon enrollment if registering after 8/10/24. After that, tuition payments are due monthly and will be charged on the 10th of each month September-April. If you wish to pay tuition via cash or check instead of your card being charged you must submit payment prior to the 1st. Late payments are subject to a $15/student late fee. Refunds or credits will not be issued for classes canceled due to inclement weather.

Summer camps: Tuition: $250/week for current SMSD students, $260/week for new students. Multi-camp discount: $10 off each additional camp (Camp discounts not applicable to Celebrate USA ONE DAY camps). $100 non-refundable deposit due upon registering. Balance due first day of camp.

Summer classes: There is no registration fee for the summer session. The full summer session tuition amount will be charged on 6/10/24. If enrolling after that date the full summer session tuition will be charged upon registration.

By providing credit card information, you authorize Shirley McPhail School of Dance to charge your credit card on the 1st of each month for payment of dance class tuition, should you fail to submit cash or check payment before that date. You also authorize Shirley McPhail School of Dance to charge your credit card on the due date for all registration fees, recital fees, costume fees, and late fees should payment fail to be submitted voluntarily. This authorization will remain in effect until you cancel it in writing. Shirley McPhail School of Dance must be notified in writing of any changes in account information or termination of classes at least 14 days prior to the next billing date. If the above noted payment dates fall on a weekend or holiday, payments may be executed on the next business day.

Enrollment & Drop Policies

SMSD accepts enrollments online only via the parent portal. In order to enroll a student a debit or credit card must be added to be kept on file.

Notice of a drop must be given two weeks in advance of next billing date to the studio office by writing an email or filling out a drop form in person (available in the studio office).  A verbal drop to a teacher, friend, or office staff is not acceptable. Failure to notify will result in continued tuition payments.

Tuition is due for the entire month in which the drop occurs. No student may drop and re-enroll without full repayment of registration fees.

Registration, tuition, recital, and costume fees are non-refundable. May tuition is non-refundable if drop occurs, but may be applied towards a continued month of class.

  • Registration Fee: Non-refundable. Charged upon registration. $55 for 1st student, $30 for any additional students.

  • May 2025 Tuition: Non-refundable. Charged August 10 (due upon registration after August 10).

  • September 2024-April 2025 Tuition: Charged on the 10 of the month. Late payments are subject to a $15/student late fee.

  • Costume Deposit: Charged on November 10.

  • Recital Fee: Charged January 10.

  • Late Fees: $15/student for any payment past due.


Class Card Prices

(Adult Classes Only)

1 class = $25

4 classes = $96 ($24/class)

8 classes = $184 ($23/class)

12 classes = $264 ($22/class)

Class cards expire at the end of dance session (based on date purchased).

For example, class cards purchased during summer session can only be used for summer classes, and class cards purchased during the 2023-24 dance year can only be used for classes during that dance year.
